Scripture Song Compose Beginner: John 13: 15

"For I have Given you an example that ye should do as I have done to you." John 13:15 (The theme scripture for Primary in April 2012)

•Step 1: Prepare: write out the scripture leaving space above and two lines of space below each line of text.

•Step 2: Rhythm:
  A) Help Morning Glory put a vertical line under each syllable in the scripture( Use the line just underneath the line of text to put these notations--this is the beginning of determining rhythm
B) Help her determine where it would be good to add a horizontal line connecting two of the vertical rhythm lines together, indicating ti-ti (fast, eighth note ) rhythm and leave the Ta (slow, quarter note rhythms).
C) Are there any places we would like to add a rest, or a quiet break (notated by a backwards z). Note: This is a Level 1 composition so we only use those three rhythms: Ta, Ti-Ti and Rest)

•Step 3: Melody:
A)  Teach the Curwen Handsigns for Do, Mi, So and La melody sounds. ( These are the only melody options we will use in this level 1 composition)
B) Help Morning Glory choose what melody she would like to use in this composition by encouraging her to use handsigns and sing the words together.  She can do this step several times until she finds a melody she likes.
C) Help her to use the line above the text to notate what melody she has chosen. (D=Do, M=Mi, S=So,L=La)

This completes the composition for a beginner.
