This Article in the New York Times is fascinating, but not really surprising to me:
"When children learn to play a musical instrument, they strengthen a range of auditory skills. Recent studies suggest that these benefits extend all through life, at least for those who continue to be engaged with music.
But a study published last month is the first to show that music lessons in childhood may lead to changes in the brain that persist years after the lessons stop."

I Completed Kindermusik Licensing Today!

I have joyed in being the mom of a Kindermusik student and now I am so excited to have completed Kindermusik Licensing! I have really enjoyed my student teaching and look forward to teaching my own classes now that I am licensed. Where I teach, Kindermusik is used primarily as music therapy and parent education for parents of children with developmental delays
Kindermusik is a wonderful program designed to enhance development in every area of the brain for infants, toddlers and children ages 0-7 years. My favorite part is that it is also designed with home materials and parent education included as an integral part of each class so parents with little or no music training can bring music and movement activities into their home each day by incorporating it into simple routines of the day. See Kindermusik.com to find a Kindermusik class near you and you can even sign up to try a free class!
I highly recommend it!!!

“Music is the language of some other state, born of memory. For what can wake
the soul’s strong instinct of some other world like music?”

Why Music? For Our Welfare
In Herbert Spencer's opinion, music is
"the highest form of the fine arts, as the one which more then any other ministers to human welfare."

Why Music? For Order and Vitality
Irwin Edmund, an American philosopher, wisely teaches: "In a world where everything seems to come out desperately wrong, good music comes out exquisitely right. It is the logic of sound. But the logic is not that of a textbook or an argument. It is an order of vitality, a dream of sound become organized and crystallized."

Why Music? It Raises and Ennobles
Goethe declared that music "raises and ennobles whatever it expresses."
I believe the challenge then is to make sure that the music we allow into our family is only music which "raises and ennobles" what we value most. Otherwise music can also lift up as noble and Good, things that we would never want to even be heard of let alone set up as our family ideals.

Why Music? For the Happiness of Your Children
English author, Horace Walpole stated, "Had I children, my utmost endeavors would be to make them musicians. . . As my aim would be to make them happy, I think it is the most probable method."
