1) Write out the words (leaving a row above--for solfa, and at least two rows beneath--for Rhythm and Beat). In the row directly below the words, write in one vertical line (TA) for each syllable.
2) Add in notation for Divided beats (Ti-Ti) and any Rests. Remember that the only Rhythms used in level 1 are Beat (TA), Divided Beat (Ti-Ti) and Rest (notated by a backwards Z).
3) In the row directly underneath the Rythm row, add in red vertical lines to represent the Beat. (For your own use, you can add in the time signature and the barlines if you want. Those are not Kodally level 1 concepts so if the student is helping with the composition, you would leave those out for now).
4) Now you can add a melody written in sol-fa--using only So (S), Mi (M), La (L) and Do (D) for Kodaly level 1.
Note that I used
Article of Faith 2 as the text for this song.
